What 4x4 to buy?

Hi am in the market for a 4x4 but i have never owned one and unsure of what I'm looking for or what best suits my needs.

After something thats reliable on and off road, will be used for basic camping trips and also longer trips like perth to ningaloo for example. Wont be used for heavy bush driving mainly sand but for it to be comfortable in any terrain. Will be buying with or setting up dual batteries so can run lights and have a power source in remote areas. Also a 5 seater.

I also have a toyota corolla ill continue to drive aswell.

I have been weighing up between a landcruiser or a mitsu challenger/Pajero would like to keep price around 10k.

Any comments appreciated. Cheers

Prado wagon? Isuzu?

Really depends on your mechanical ability too. Patrols and Cruisers are heavy and thirsty, and a lighter vehicle will generally work better in sand.

Re: What 4x4 to buy?

Prado 90series turbo diesel be a great choice
And might actually have a little coin to spare.

A 2.8 turbo diesel pajero be a good choice too

Stay away from jackeroos in the 3ltr turbo diesel

Hyundai terrican be a good choice in a turbo diesel and have plenty of cash to spare for the mods you want.

The above choices are reasonably good on fuel.
The jackeroo have a high tech mechanical setup that caterpillar developed but it extremely costly in repairs and long term issues reliability wise

Pajero prado and terrican would be in your price range
And be cost efficient travel wise

And.... almost a discovery in a turbo diesel but would want a guru to check over it for issues before purchase, than a normal shop for a check over.

Patrols and landcruisers are out of your price range
And might want to step into them once you get a bit more serious offroad and funds allow the maintenance and running costs.
90prado series are great standard in regards to flex
Pajero did come with a locker but a rare finds...
Plenty of discos just lack the confidence in reliability but comes down to dedicated workshops and preventitive measures and upgrades

If you are not driving it everyday do not be scared of a Petrol. You can quickly loose your diesel fuel savings in expensive diesel repairs.

I don't think you'd find a TD prado in your budget worth buying. As above stay away from Holden Jacksroo TD.
I'm not quitting drinking, I'm retiring at the top of my game - sporting comeback likely.
