Close encounters

My wife and I took our 4 and nearly 3 year old grand daughters to Disney on Ice at the Rod Laver Hall on Tuesday . On the way home we were involved in a collision on the Monash Fwy by a Kia and truck that wanted to share the same lane. My wife was in the front passenger seat and the two little grand children were in the rear.

My wife ended up at the Frankston Hospital for a check as her head hit the side B pillar. All good though and she was released about 6 hours later. This could of ended much worse.....the grand children didn't cry but later asked why we weren't going to take them to Maccas as promised.

Image

Piss poor video of the dash cam provided by the truck owner but my car is the silver Maxima in front of the truck. The truck pitted the Kia and it then speared into my car forcing me into the far right lane.

Far out, that would have been far worse in some vehicles. Glad everyone was okay.

Good to hear you and the kids were ok RN.
Assuming the Kia was at fault?
And apart from the door damage how did the maxima hold up?
Looking at a car for my eldest at present. .. 5 star safety and all is a major factor. But the way some clowns drive sometimes nothing will help. .. scares me having my kids exposed to the daily commute but something i have ti deal with i guess

Re: Close encounters

Glad te wife and gradies are OK.

Out of interest, who would be deemed at fault? The Kia or the truck, as they were both changing lanes. Would the truck hitting the Kia in the rear quarter put the truck at fault? Or is it just one on those shit happens things?

Both the Kia and the truck have to give way when diverging. This matter could end up a shit fight as to what actually happened moment where it is difficult to place blame.

I have given the footage to my insurers so they can be satisfied that I was the innocent party.

Re: Close encounters

Fark mate. Glad you're all alright! Hopefully no lasting trauma for Mrs RN or the Grannies.

Next to the Werribee area, I reckon the Monash is one of the scariest places in Hellbourne to drive, and even scarier to ride.

Video not working - says it's a private album :-(

And GUTripper, probably a Subaru AWD - they drive like they're on rails. Try to get one with low(ish) km, although they're a bit like leprechaun's gold. But first up teach 'em to drive properly before anything. I've already started with mine (12yo), driving around my brother's property. By the time she's on the road, she'll have all the car control stuff down pat, and she's taking much more interest in what/why I do on the road now. Taking the kids out on the back of the bike a few times, its amazing how FEELING my reaction to threats teaches them to observe what's going on around them on the road. Still, not much you can do about being in the wrong place at the wrong time :-(

The damage to the Maxima is being assessed but I hope it will just need another door, a lick of paint and the sill pulled back.....(couple of cm)

Maximas are fairly solid vehicles . The Kia that hit me looked OK but the steering and suspension took a beating.

I had a lot of work on plus some of life's ups and downs, and also didn't actually have a fourby any more.

Looks like the Maxima has maxed out..off to Tulla for a coup de grâce and will morph as a Kia.

That is the plan...need to get another car for my daughter ( it was her vehicle that was totalled...I had swapped it for the Outback as the Suby was older and becoming cranky ) I'll keep the Suby until 2018 where I can then put the Maverick on club rego.)

Talking of the Maverick...I suspect the head has a burnt valve. ( due to the LPG ??) My son in law to be purchased a 4.2 GQ Patrol diesel engine some time ago but never fitted it and ended up selling the Patrol. I was wondering what it would take to fit a diesel 4.2 into a petrol vehicle. Differences?

Gearboxes are the same.

Diffs are the same but different ratio.

Stuff the swap...sounds a bit of a hassle...

The jury is still out. I thought he would be a breath of fresh air compared to TA but think it may be just wind.... This country needs strong government as we are in for some financial hurt. Glad Labor didn't get in, hopeful that the Libs will have the balls to make hard decisions or this country is stuffed ...

Re: Close encounters

I reckon we need to ditch the whole farkin' lot of 'em and start again.

Between Government by Murdoch media headlines to all the parasitic little maggots that make up the "Party Machine" in the major parties, there's jut SO much wrong with the system in this country :-(

BTW, see how easy it still is to completely shift the focus of an Outers thread in one or two posts :finger: :D

In other news, tripper went wheeling last night. In the snow.

Mt Skene? :D

Took the kids up to Donna Bangs the other week. Timed it just right for the front to come through. Rain had washed most of the snow off on the way down the hill by the time I took this pic.
