Re: Finke 16

By accident, we are travelling and landed in a caravan park in Alice this week. Bikes, Quads, trucks & buggies everywhere. Awfully quiet in the park now - they are all out at the course. One thing we noted with all the competitors was that all the people we have me who are on the race are 'normal' people - regular guys who I am sure would be willing to help you if you ran into trouble. Most of them would be country people I am sure.

Re: Finke 16

I had a brief look at the course, and anyone who does the run in times like that must be crazy, or have awfully big Mahones (to quote Police Academy). The winner's time, by my calculations meant that they averaged something like 130 km/h. The bits of the track I saw (I was on my way to Chambers Pillar) were narrow, bumpy and outright dangerous for anything like those speeds. Anyone who completes the course wins an award (a rail dogspike) but they certainly win my respect. I spoke to a guy before the race and asked him why he came back this year for more. He couldn't give me an answer, but he agreed that after 45 minutes on his bike, he reckoned he would be thinking the same thoughts - Why am I here? It must be one hell of an event to go in.

Re: Finke 16

The track was 'technical'...... that's how id call it.
I've ridden tougher tracks.
I've ridden over 1000 kms in a day over the Gunbarrel Hwy on a loaded rally bike on a warm day. .. that was harder imo.
Finke was quite fun in some ways.
Enjoyed the trip down to Finke.... felt pretty good physically when i finished day 1. Had a few cans and smokes to celebrate :)
Day 2 was tougher. ...the whoops sharper and bigger.
Yet i still shaved a bit of time off day 1 time.

Definitely going back next year. Will be fitter stronger more focused, and with more track knowledge a lot faster... would like to shave 20 mins off each day at least and is do able easy i reckon.
Anyone care to run support for me ?

Re: Finke 16

Getting the beers from the fridge mainly lol
Think of it like a long drive to go camping whilst someone goes riding once you get there. ..
Driving. Setting up. Cooking. Etc. Drive the car from Alice down to camp at Finke and set up, back again the next day.
Nothing too hard.

Re: Finke 16

Hey mate.

Remember that kick ass twin motor winch you had with the jeep on the end of it, did you do the wiring for that or get someone to do it ?

I'm having some issues with my highmount and am looking for an auto elec that does comp style winch set-ups.

There used to be a few guys that would do it on site but can't find any details.

Cheers

Hey Chris,
The in cab switching was there but i did the rest, but got Sandy Bowman to put in a cut off for the battery power.
If you're not sure give him a call at Aus 4wd in Bayswater. He can do it for you no worries.
Cheers.
