Grapes

I got this done yesterday arvo, for my old man.

We lost him a few years ago to Cancer, he spent a good chunk of his life making and selling wine, he worked at a winery in the Hunter Valley known as The Rothbury Estate, I think its called something else now, but he worked closely with Len Evans, and he also published a couple of books on different types of grapes and wines.
He worked as a wine maker, and salesman, and also he loved drinking wine.

Ive wanted to get a tattoo for him for a while now, but just had to figure out what I wanted.

I first thought about getting a bottle of wine, with his name of the label. I even dug out an old Rothbury Estate bottle of red so we could copy the label. But i thought having a bottle of wine inked onto my arm would make me look like an alcoholic.

So I kept thinking, and decided on a grapevine. I think he would like it, and itll look alot better once its all coloured in.

Re: Grapes

I think you need to spray them as I think that is a hairy fungal moss growing around it. :D

Honouring your dad.

Re: Grapes

My dad is not well, mainly bed ridden now. I told him today that I am going to apply for a shooters licence so I can use his rifles. 240, 22/250. .22. His eyes lit up and I knew that he was happy for me to have them as they have been part of his life for as long as I can remember. He has owned firearms since the war days when he sort of obtained a .303 military Enfield factory fresh..cough cough... :D

Dads...

PS went to a car dealership to help my daughter select a car. I acted as the bullshit filter....she looked at me during the visit...with that 'Thank god you are here.' It is what dad's do...make the hurt go away. :D

Cheers you guys, and yes I know Im a furry bugger. Like Lotsa Cuddles from Toy Story 3.

You can rest assured you'll never be as furry as Twon. The man is surely a beast.

Re: Grapes

I was always going to get the grapes filled in, was thinking full colour when I got it done. But the last couple of days I have been thinking about whether I want full colour or not.
Full colour is going to be bright, and stand out alot(purple grapes, brown vine, green leaves), where black and grey shading will look alot less in your face.
Ive always been a massive fan of black and grey, and shading, if done right, can look really awesome.

I googled a couple of pics of both to help get your opions.....

Full colour.....

Re: Grapes

I reckon go the colour. Colour can look awesome if done well.

It'll be nearly all covered by a shirt by the look of it?

I went and got it coloured in last Friday arvo. I spent nearly 4 hours getting the colour done, and I think it turned out amazing. Zane at STR Wyong did a fantastic job!!
These pics were taken Friday night after a quick clean up of the area.....

Lucky your Dad wasn't a gynecologists.

Nice tattoo. I've had more than my fair share of Rothbury Estate wines over the years. The Brokenback shiraz was a very nice drop.

They look like pinot grapes.
