Disco heating issues?

Hey Guys,

I have 93 disco 3.5lt V8 on LPG which has a tendency to creep up in temperature when it is on the freeways. The needle moves up to 3/4's.

I have had the radiator flushed and unblocked, now it still wants to creep a little over half?

Is this normal? or could there be any other issue? I was thinking of taking out the thermostat but not sure if that will will fix the problem or if taking it out will cause other problems?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried a new thermostat? It could be sticking or it might just need to be renewed.Doesnt cost much and it could well be the problem.

Also maybe your clutch fan isnt working.But on the freeway it shouldnt really matter because of the air flowing through.If it was in normal stop start traffic i would look at it.Not to sure but it could be anotrher thing to check.But i would definately start with the thermostat first.

I agree on thermostat as the first thing to check. In fact, just replace the thing.

Just went to quiz the local mechanic, he reckon that the condenser that sits in front of the radiator may be clogged up with mud, blocking the air flow to the radiator. He is confident that is the problem.

sounds like he is hunting for extra labour charge.
I second others opinions, change the thermostat.

Very possible. If you look in through the grille and it looks full of crap, then its not helping. Pulling two small driving lights off the bar on mine made a bit of difference to temperature, and the condenser covers a lot more of the radiator. Pull the radiator and grille out, and wash the condenser out from both sides with a hose. Don't use heaps of pressure, as you'll likely bend all the fins flat, just rinse it out. And as others said, can't hurt to change the thermostat (already got the coolant out, and they're cheap!).
